Garmon / squint productions Talking Postcards - Good Grief Perfromative Installation Ami Garmon produzierte von 1994-96 One-Woman-Shows für Museen und Theater. Zwischen 1998 - 2001 entwickelte sie mit der Unterstützung des AFAA, den französischen Instituten in Bilbao, Berlin und Kyoto und dem Theater am Halleschen Ufer, Berlin das multiple Installationsprojekt "Lack of North: Situation 1 -5". Sie hat u.a mit Marco Berrettini, Pierre Droulers, Mark Thompkins, Philippe Jamet, Phillippe Decouffle gearbeitet. 2000 begann sie ein privates Forschungsprojekt mit Steve Paxton, das im April 2002 präsentiert wurde. 2003 kreierte Marco Berrettini für sie "Prudence". 2004 gründete sie squint productions. Im Mai 2005 wurde "Stones", der erste Teil einer Reihe von Arbeiten zum Thema Empathie, im HAU 2 uraufgeführt. Das Performance-Installations-Projekt "Talking Postcards" wurde im Sommer 2006 in drei Schlössern, sowie in den Sophiensaelen gezeigt. Ami Garmon ist auch zertifizierte Pilates Lehrerin. Zur Installation In "Talking Postcards" untersucht Ami Garmon in performativen Installationen die vielfachen Bedeutungsschichten des englischen Begriffs recreation, als 'Freizeit' und als 'Erneuerung'. Die Fotos und Hörtexte reflektieren in poetischer Form menschliche Schwäche und Trägheit und was uns dazu bringt, uns in Freizeitaktivitäten zu flüchten. "Good Grief" zeigt einen Ausschnitt aus einer größeren Installation, die für die sophiensaele im August 2006 entwickelt wurde, Fotos, Sound, Kinderplanschbecken und performative Elemente vereinte und das Publikum zum Essen und Trinken einlud. Dank an: Patricia Woltmann, Anne Porst, Cyril Tuschi & sophiensaele Statement "Diese Arbeit entstand aus dem Wunsch, Erinnerungen via ihres begrenzten Kontextes (sozusagen als Erinnerungs-Stücke) mit auf Tour oder in den Urlaub zu nehmen. Ich begann mit spezifischen Artefakten bereits existierender Stücke, die zwar nicht mehr gespielt wurden, aber in ihrer physischen Präsenz und ihrer Beziehung zu mir noch immer die Regale meines Arbeitsraums und meine Gedanken füllten. In diesen Videostills oder Fotos und den dargestellten Elementen der ausgewählten Szenen suchte ich mich selbst und meine Erinnerung, um diese herauszutrennen, abzustauben und mit einem Reisepass, einem Koffer und einem Hut auszustatten - ein reisendes Bröckchen aus dem Kontext des Stückes gerissen, für das es gemacht war. Ich fragte mich, ob meine Erinnerungen und Fragmente Ferien machen können - werden sie mir Postkarten schreiben? From 1994-96 Ami Garmon produced One-Woman-Shows for museums and theater. May 2005 premiere in HAU 2 of "Stones", the first part of a series of pieces on the subject of empathy. The performance-installations project "Talking Postcards" toured three castles throughout summer 2006 and was shown at the sophiensaele and in the Tanzfabrik. Ami Garmon is also a certified Pilates teacher. The installation "Good Grief" is a part of a larger installation first produced for the sophiensaele in August 2006 that included photos, sound, children"s pools, performative elements and which invited the audience to partake of food and drink. In a series of installation pictures or audio-visual stations, Ami Garmon examines the multiple layers of meaning hidden in the word "recreation", both as leisure and as renewal. The "Talking Postcards" revisit a number of past works, which looked at and featured stories of empathy and weakness, directly treating the uses and notions of escape and indolence and evoking in poetic form some of the various grievances and real grief that often compel a person to seek solace and divertissement - to flee into leisure activities. Statement This work springs from the desire to take memories via their partial context (memorabilia as it were) on tour or holiday. In other words I started with some specific artifacts of existing pieces that no longer toured and yet whose physical presence and my relationship to them cluttered my mind and the shelves of my studio. So from the video stills or photographs and the elements depicted in those chosen scenes I tried to locate myself and the memory and take it out, dust it off, give it a passport a suitcase and a new hat - a traveling morsel out of its place within the context of the "original piece" which it was intended to belong to. I wondered if my memories/mementos and fragments could have a holiday break- if they would send postcards? Ironically the "original scenes" that were transplanted into the wild mutated. As Armistead Maupin wrote: Souvenirs rarely survive transportation. The ensuing photograph/performances were staged taken and developed with the explicit intention to become the piece themselves and no longer artifacts of another piece.
