_ Sasha Waltz Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz
	_ Biographical Information After completing her dance education at the School For New Dance Development in Amsterdam in 1993, Sasha Waltz was artist in residence at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin. There she developed "Dialoge", an interdisciplinary project with dancers, musicians and other artists of different genres. In the same year she founded the company Sasha Waltz & Guests together with Jochen Sandig. From 1993 to 1995 the "Travelogue-Trilogy" was created, which was shown worldwide. In 1996 she opened the sophiensaele, a theatre she founded in co-operation with Jochen Sandig, with her piece "Allee der Kosmonauten" which was invited to the 34th Theatertreffen Berlin and which was filmed under her direction in 1998. Other productions: "Zweiland" (1997), "Na zemlje" (1998). Since autumn 1999 Sasha Waltz and Thomas Ostermeier, Jens Hillje and Jochen Sandig hold the artistic direction of the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz. Her first creation at the Schaubühne, "Körper" (January 2000), was also invited to the Theatertreffen Berlin. For the film "Allee der Kosmonauten" she received the Grimme award in 2000. The association of German critics awarded her the critcs' award.
_ Approach to Work When beginning a new piece Sasha Waltz formulates a general topic which she then tries to familiarise herself with, in cooperation with her dancers, by the means of intense investigations and lengthy improvisation projects. Spaces and social milieus play a crucial role. Her aim always is to transport and pervade the content or the question by means of movement based on the complex language of the human body and dynamic energy. She fuses abstract dance, which is related to American postmodernism, with narrative, scenic "physical theatre". She consistently searches for a specific formal and aesthetic realisation of each piece. The close co-operation with artists of other disciplines - contemporary composers, video-artists, architects, artists of the fine arts - is existential for her work.
