_ Biographical Information

Xavier Le Roy was born in Juvisy sur Orge, France. He studied biochemistry at the Université Montpellier, in 1990 PhD in molecular and cellular biology. Dance education at Véronique Larcher, Montpellier, Ruth Barnes and Anne Koren, Paris. Since 1992 he has been living and working in Berlin. In 1994 he co-founded the group "Le Kwatt" together with the musicologist and composer Alexander Birntraum and the light designer Sylvie Garot. The pieces "Things I hate to admit", "Blut e Boredom" were created in cooperation with the photographer Laurent Goldring, as well as "Narcisse Flip" and the "To.Be.Projekt". In 1996 participation in the group "Quatuor Albrecht Knust". In 1998 initiation of an interdisciplinary research project on body images and representation called "Namenlos". Invitation to "Crash-Landing @Lisboa", participation at the theory-event "Body Currency" of the Wiener Festwochen, invitation of this work to the Berlin Biennale and premiere of "Self Unfinished". In 1999 premiere of "Product of Circumstances", foundation of the in situ production and initiation of the project E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S#1. In 2000 creation of a piece commissioned by Jerome Bel called "Xavier Le Roy" (Victoria, Gent), collaboration with Yvonne Rainer, "meeting" at "Zwischenrufe" (Internationales Tanzfest Berlin) and organisation of E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S.#3 in collaboration with Stefan Pente (Podewil/Tanzwerkstatt Berlin). Since 1996 artist in residence at the Podewil / TanzWerkstatt Berlin.
_ Approach to Work

In situ production was founded in 1998 as a group. Their research is concerned mainly with the topics: the human body, body images and their perception in relation to a fundamental questioning of the term 'performance', the representation and the depiction.



_ Current Production

"E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S.#2.7": Is changing the name changing the code and changing the code changing the translation? Or, is changing the translation changing the transmission? Is changing the message changing the transmissionor is changing the context changing the concept? Is changing the concept changing the method or is changing the method changing the product? Is changing the product changing the production and is changing the production changing the game?
