Ami Garmon


_ Biographical Information

Ami Garmon has danced for Philippe Découflé, Pierre Droulers...
in 1990 she founded her first company FIASCO creating one woman shows for cabarets, theaters and galleries. In 1994 "Set and Panoplie". Invited to "Skite Portugal" with her company "Louise, Louise". "The Knee bone Nuances and Blue Telling", a concert of spoken-word poetry in 1995. Film "The Conversation" together with Nicolas Losson; selected for "Videodanse Beaubourg" in 1996. "The River, pas vues", duo. In 1997 together with Nicolas Losson "The River", an all women choreographic and cinematographic piece. "Lack of North" - a choreographic installationproject; situations 1-3 in 1998/99. Situation 4 "I never have any fun", a choreographic pop concert with live band, dance and video, was created with the American musician Paul Watson. Ami Garmon is based in Berlin and Paris. She also works with Marco Berrettini in his company "Tanzplantation" .
_ Approach to Work

Primarily all of my work, my imagination is derived from the act of writing: texts, journals, poems, essays etc. the dance part is my way of "publishing" ... Constraints are always important for me. A sense of imitation shaping my manoeuvres. The trick is to find the breath and create space. Clothes are an immediate appeal to this task. They contain both physical and cultural identities ... Dance is a feeling for me a response a postioning a reckoning. It is another form of communication, like language, like writing, like sex. It is hard to be overly specific because it is movement both in idea and physicality. I prefer to make allusians to behaviours, rhythms and in some instances to gestures...

"Lack of North", situation 4: this is a full musical pop concert with contemporary dance
_ Future Projects

"Lack of North", situation 5: written and created with visual artist Nadia Lauro, sound environment Nicolas Losson and Jim Thompson, choreography Ami Garmon, text, performance Ami Garmon, Marco Berettini, musicians Jim Thompson and two others, dancers: four. Premier of the first part scheduled for January 2001 in Theater am Halleschen Ufer, then in Grenoble.

_ "Lack of North"; situations 1, 2, 3 and 4 (1998/99). Situation 3 is a sound installation composed and conceived by Nicolas Losson, sometimes with dance improvisation.
