_ Biographical Information
In 1990, after the completion of her dance education in England, Marguerite Donlon was engaged by Peter Schaufuss as a solo dancer at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Since then she has worked with several well known choreographers including Maurice BČjart, Jiri Kyli&aague;n, William Forsythe, Michael Clark, Meg Stuart and Roland Petit amongst others. Moreover, with "Celtic Touch" (1991) she started her own body of choreographies, for which she has become increasingly well known. Especially the choreographies "Patch of Grass", "Stew", "Taboo or not" and the two short films "Lokus" and "Different Directions" were noteworthy and prominent samples of her large body of work. "Stew" was a production with the Cathy Sharp Dance Ensemble Basel and was also shown in the USA, London and Ireland. She accepted several invitations to festivals, for instance to the short cuts festival Vienna and the festival San Francisco dance screen.
Marguerite Donlon has developed her own language of movement. The influence of her Irish origins is evident in the pronounced foot work. She fuses the contemporary approach to life and unexpressed emotions and the pace of movements, which can range from slow to dynamic. Grotesque moments, black humour and speech-song add a droll quality to her choreographies. She makes an effort to respect the personality and independence of each dancer in her work. She also tries to provide a multi-layered visual experience in her choreographies by giving a variety of media equal weight.
_ Current Production
"Different Directions" - A piece which confronts "real" dancers with their "virtual" counterparts on stage. The direct integration of the dance video into the live-choreography blurs the spectator's limits of perception.
"Taboo or Not" - The fascination of breaking a taboo, of entering a "forbidden realm", results in a kind of nervous energy which the dancers express in fast-paced solo pieces.
